For Memorial Day 2009, Bennett and Chad went to the Ardennes American Cemetery. The 90-acre cemetery contains the graves of 5,329 of our military dead, many of whom died in the 1944 Ardennes winter offensive (Battle of the Bulge). The headstones are aligned in straight rows that form a Greek cross on the lawns and are framed by tree masses. The cemetery served as the location of the Central Identification Point for the American Graves Registration Service of the War Department during much of the life of the Service. Bennett and Chad helped with the Memorial Day Service by raising the flag, handing out pamphlets, and partaking in the ceremony. This was a truly humbling experience for both of my men. I praise God that our son gets to serve others in this manner. Below are photos of this opportunity:

The last picture takes my breath away and fills my eyes with tears. Reminds me of how I felt when we visited Arlington (not long after Charlie's injuries). I am so happy for Bennett and Chad that they got to camp together. Ben is the perfect age for all of the American history that surrounds you.
